Waiting Game: A Vanishing Act

 

I’ve noticed that in today’s society, there is constant debate regarding international environmental issues, animal endangerment, and extinction, but not enough discussion about North American animals. My collection of photographs was created to shed light on the animals “in our backyard” (North America) that are endangered or threatened. Photography has allowed me to capture these animals in captivity before they vanish. Once an animal goes extinct, all that remains are statistics, facts, and, if we are lucky, images. The manipulation of these photographs is a representation of the future if the conservation does not begin to change. My goal in creating this body of work is to bring attention to animals that could very easily disappear with no one noticing.
